Adriana Garcia joined Ross Optical in 2018. Initially joining the team to help in customer service and sales she has moved into the role of New Business and Digital Marketing Manager. We sat down with her and found out more about her background, her work at Ross, and what her favorite hobby is.
What is your professional background?
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management and an associate’s degree in Business Management. Have always handled customer service roles, helping grow my career. While keeping up with school and work, I joined ENACTUS, an international student organization. I enjoyed it very much, as we did community service to help the less fortunate through business-based projects.
What brought you to Ross?
Destiny brought me to Ross. I did not know anything about optics or the company when I heard of the job opening. I came across a co-worker who was leaving the position, and the opportunity caught my attention. I became interested in the optics field and thought it would be something new to try, so I jumped in, a bit scared. I went out of my comfort zone and took the challenge. Very happy I did as I love my job and the customers I get to meet. The optics field has been very interesting and I am learning something new every day.
Can you describe your role at Ross?
I started in the customer service and sales position. Processing customer orders, making sure everything is ready to be entered into the system, manufactured correctly, and on time, including answering any questions. Quoting customers on any custom optics or catalog items. Including following up and getting to chat with customers, which I love to do. My position is now new business and digital marketing manager. I oversee the sales and customer service team. While my title has changed, I still help customers with any pricing needs and help them get started on any new projects they may have in mind. I jump in to process your orders and answer questions while also monitoring your products in the supply chain. Always available if customers have any order or pricing questions.
Can you share a particularly interesting project you’ve worked on recently?
All new lens projects are interesting to me, while many do not disclose the product. It’s very interesting to know that a micro lens can go into many medical products. In the end helping a doctor and its patient. As I go into marketing, the position has me working on helping our customers have a stress-free way of contacting us and placing quotes on our website while also educating our customers on our products.
What challenges or questions do you address for customers?
Lead times have been a big one over the last years. The market has changed a lot in a short time and adjusting to the change has been a challenge. Keeping costs and pricing for customers low has also been a part of that change. I like to be very honest with customers as we face these changes or with any questions that may come up about orders and quotes. I constantly work on getting the customer an honest answer and do my best to get your product out quickly and at the best price.
What trends do you see in the market?
Micro lenses and macro lenses have been very popular. Also seeing many new ideas and projects being developed. Working with customers as they do experiments making sure the optical lens will be a good fit and, in some cases, trial and error runs until they find the best fit. Can be very expensive at times but love to see that in the end the customer has a successful working product.
What project are you most proud of at Ross?
I love to hear about the customers’ reaction when they receive an optical lens, and it fits, and it works great in their application. All these projects take a team of us at Ross to complete and it’s very satisfying to see that the quote for a lens that went out is on a machine or medical product, helping the end customer.
What is your favorite part of working at Ross?
There is always something new to learn in this industry and at Ross. I love the fact that we all work together to get the order in and manufactured for you, from concept to production.
What is something that people might not know about you?
I have a few hobbies, from yoga to hiking. My favorite thing to do is dance. I grew up learning many forms of dance. I went into Latin dancing a few years ago and am still learning.
