What is your professional background?
My professional journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Business Accounting, followed by a Master of Business Administration with a specialization in Human Resources. I have gained valuable experience working in Human Resources, but more recently, my focus has shifted toward accounting. Despite this shift, I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the unique aspects of both fields.
What brought you to Ross?
Unexpectedly, Ross found me. Ross Optical was a client of the accounting firm I worked for. Ed Ross, the owner, was in need of a bookkeeper for his business. He approached the firm to see if they could recommend someone. My boss at the time suggested that I would be a good candidate for the position and referred me to the company. I joined Ross in 2003, and today marks 21 years with the company.
Can you describe your role at Ross?
Since joining Ross, the company has always been a small family business, and over the years, I've worn many hats. I've handled both HR and accounting duties, and as the company has grown, I've transitioned into my current role as Office Manager. In this position, I manage accounts payable, receivable, and inventory.
What challenges or questions do you address for customers?
As the accountant, my biggest challenge has been addressing invoicing inquiries and payment statuses. I always strive to assist as best as I can and respond to any other questions that arise.
What project are you most proud of at Ross?
One of my major projects and goals has been reducing inventory loss. My accounting skills and attention to detail have been invaluable in organizing and managing the inventory, helping to prevent significant losses for the company. Physical inventory at Ross Optical is something I take pride in maintaining, and it required a great deal of time and effort to get it where it is today.
What is your favorite part of working at Ross?
One of the greatest aspects of working at Ross Optical is the family-like environment. We experience ups and downs, just like any family, but ultimately, we come together to work toward a shared goal.
What is something that people might not know about you?
I'm a big fan of fall—maybe a bit controversial—but I absolutely love the Halloween season. I enjoy the imaginative and fictional elements of it, though the holiday always feels too short. My office is always the first to be decorated for fall. In my free time, I enjoy being with family and taking spin classes at Rush Cycle.
